Miss Scarlet

Miss Scarlet is a British-American period crime drama created by Rachael New, starring Kate Phillips (Wolf Hall, Peaky Blinders) as Eliza Scarlet. It began as Miss Scarlet and The Duke, in which Eliza works alongside her childhood friend Detective Inspector William “The Duke” Wellington of Scotland Yard, played by Stuart Martin, in a mismatched, fiery partnership. After Martin left at the end of Series 4, the Duke was written out and the show was retitled Miss Scarlet, with Tom Durant-Pritchard joining as the new Scotland Yard detective, Inspector Alexander Blake. The series has run for six series and 36 episodes, with a seventh and final series now in production. In the UK it is shown on U&Alibi, and Series 6 began on Tuesday 24 March 2026, with earlier series available to stream on U. In the US it airs on PBS Masterpiece.

Eliza is supported by an eclectic band of friends and colleagues, including Ivy Woods (Cathy Belton), her father’s loyal housekeeper and her own confidante, and the forensic-minded Moses Valentine (Ansu Kabia). Her father Henry Scarlet is played by Kevin Doyle. The cases range from murders and burglaries to mysteries touching the highest levels of Victorian society, set against a stylish, moody London. Phillips has said it has been “one of the greatest joys of my career”, and she became an executive producer from Series 4.

The show combines twisty mysteries, slow-burn romance and a lively cast, and has been described as a good choice for fans of Sherlock Holmes. Series 1 was filmed in Ireland, and from Series 2 production moved to Belgrade, Serbia, where Victorian London is recreated on location and in studio.
