Art Detectives
About This Show
Art Detectives – Detective Inspector Mick Palmer arrives at the Heritage Crime Unit wearing his signature red duffle coat and bringing an encyclopedic knowledge of art history. Paired with the eager and intuitive DC Shazia Malik, who knows little about art but brings fresh perspective and sharp instincts, the duo tackles crimes that blur the line between culture and criminality. As Britain’s smallest police department, they investigate everything from corruption and forgery to money laundering and murder—all connected to the art world.
Each case pulls them deeper into exclusive circles of collectors, curators, and criminals. They’ll authenticate suspicious Vermeers, chase down stolen Viking gold, investigate wine fraud at elite tastings, and untangle mysteries surrounding rare Chinese vases and Titanic collectibles. Along the way, Mick develops a romance with museum curator Rosa, while his complicated relationship with his father Ron—one of Britain’s most notorious art forgers—adds personal stakes to professional investigations.
With its episodic structure and compelling mix of art history, clever mysteries, and character-driven storytelling, Art Detectives offers a refreshingly intelligent take on the detective drama. Think Inspector Morse meets the auction house, where every painting has a story and every case reveals the darker side of the art world.
