Bertie Carvel is an English stage and screen actor and two-time Laurence Olivier Award winner, celebrated for his transformative performance as Miss Trunchbull in Matilda the Musical and as Rupert Murdoch in Ink, for which he also won a Tony Award. Beyond his title role in Dalgliesh, Carvel is known for playing Jonathan Strange in Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Simon Foster in Doctor Foster, and Tony Blair in The Crown.
